Why the holidays bug me

Carol of the Bells is one of my favorite songs. Not just favorite holiday song, but favorite song all together. And I’ve recently been hearing it constantly altered and blared for no less than six or seven different commercials and it pisses me off. We more or less stopped celebrating Christmas about 7 years ago because of the commercialism and marketing aspect of the holiday and made it a point to get back to celebrating love and family and new beginnings instead of how much time left do I have to buy more crap.  The kids do still get a few gifts but we try to make them two or three items of quality instead of large quantities of junk, and at least one item is usually either educational or involves socks and underwear.  We celebrate the return of the sun and the days getting longer. We did finally get a tree, a fake one I’m a little depressed to admit. Unfortunately since it doesn’t really get cold down here live trees come with bugs and spiders living in them. Ew.

Anyhow, all I would really like, is to hear Carol of the Bells, in it’s entirety, without it having anything to do with getting a Garmin

(or someone just get me concert tickets…)

  1. We do the same thing about the stuff to buy. My kids always get toothbrushes in their stockings!
Our tree is fake and small(tabletop sized).

We make a Christmas crib and that’s where we put all the trimmings.

I LOVE the Carol of the Bells. When it’s not piped over the speakers of StuffMart, that is!
